Navionics established itself as the pioneer in electronic cartography in 1984. Back then, microprocessors were very slow and vector charts were simple stick maps of coastline with limited geographic coverage and simple representations of navigation symbols. But today’s plotters and intelligent GPS enabled devices can display large volumes of data very quickly and clearly.

Consequently, Navionics products have evolved by an order of magnitude. I was engaged to help them introduce “Freshest Data,” a new message that simultaneously reinforces Navionics’ core differentiator (their maps are the most up-to-date) and appeals to the fishing and boating industry – a large consumer of Navionics data. The challenge was to find a way of bringing this identity to life without over riding the core brand.

Headquartered in Italy, with their U.S. Headquarters in Wareham, MA, their team needed me to work both locally and globally. Additionally, they were on a fast track – we needed to get them ready for launches and tradeshows that would immediately affect their
market presence.

I began by rebuilding their packaging and creating a new campaign introducing a "world image" that supported their tagline... "Anytime, Anywhere." The continual evolution of their theme has included trade show materials, a new catalog, boat and car graphics, web banners, brochures and point of purchase displays. Navionics is now sporting fresh graphics that supports their new message of Anytime, Anywhere.
